West Berkshire Crematorium shortlisted for top title again

West Berkshire Crematorium has a chance to defend its title after being named as one of four finalists for one of the top honours in the prestigious 2024 Good Funeral Awards.

West Berkshire Crematorium - the 2023 Crematorium of the Year title winner is one of four to make the final shortlist for the 2024 award.

West Berkshire Crematorium is part of Westerleigh Group, one of the UK’s largest independent owners and operators of crematoria and cemeteries, with 40 sites across England, Scotland and Wales, all set within beautifully landscaped gardens of remembrance which provide peaceful places for people to visit and reflect.

Two other Westerleigh Group sites, Great Glen Crematorium in Leicestershire and Gedling Crematorium in Nottinghamshire, are among the four finalists, with the overall winner set to be announced at a celebration event at the Eden Project in Cornwall in September.

In 2021, Westerleigh Group’s Wessex Vale Crematorium won the coveted award, also making it to the final shortlist in 2022.

Debbie Smith, CEO of Westerleigh Group, said: “To be shortlisted in the category of the crematorium of the year is an achievement to be proud of in itself; to win the title is a great honour.

“But to then be named as a shortlisted finalist again really speaks volumes about the consistency of exceptional care provided to everyone associated with West Berkshire Crematorium.

“In 2023 the site won the top award and we are delighted that they have a chance to defend its title.

“We’re even more thrilled that three of the four crematoria of the year finalists are Westerleigh Group sites – that speaks volumes about the dedication and commitment of the passionate people who work at all of Westerleigh Group’s crematoria and sends a strong message that we consistently offer extremely high standards of service and deliver exceptional care to the families we support.

“I’d like to congratulate everyone at West Berkshire Crematorium and thank our industry partners for making this nomination yet again.”

West Berkshire Crematorium was opened in 2006 and is set in 10 acres of countryside, landscaped with over 250 trees.

Manager Loraine Beckinsale said: “Without doubt, West Berkshire Crematorium is not only beautiful, but provides an oasis of calm the moment you come through the gates.

“I know everyone here was honoured to be named Crematorium of the Year in 2023 and to be shortlisted in the final again this year makes us all feel so incredibly proud.

“But ultimately, the real winners are the families we support, because recognition like this reinforces our belief about the consistently exceptional quality of our facilities, our services and our people.”

The Good Funeral Awards are run by the Association of Green Funeral Directors.
